Sustainability and responsibility at Foodji
Sustainability as the basis of our actions
In all of our operational areas, we pay attention to sustainable implementation and the continuous optimization of our processes. Sustainability is the basis of our actions. The UN Sustainable Development Goals in particular are present at Foodji and are an integral part of our sustainability agenda.
Our supply chainEvery step of the supply chain counts.
Germany produces 11 million tons of food waste every year.
Of this, 17% is in out-of-home catering and 59% in private households. In company catering, at least 30% of products are regularly thrown away.
Foodji actively contributes to avoiding food waste.
95% of our guests use the Foodji app. As a result, we know the demand behavior and preferences of each individual Foodji location. Machine learning and algorithms help us to use this data to plan and continuously optimize a tailor-made range for each location: We thus avoid overstocking through intelligent quantity planning.
We work with volunteer organizations to pass on leftover meals - donations instead of waste.
At Foodji, sustainable consumption and production are closely linked to innovative technology - as the basis for improved resource management.
Support for the regional economy is lost.
Without cooperation with sustainable and regional partners, companies risk not only ecological but also social consequences. Forgoing local partnerships leads to longer transportation routes, increasedCO2 emissions and a greater impact on the environment. In addition, support for regional economies is lost, which can affect the diversity and resilience of communities.
Active product range expansion with sustainable, regional partners
With BettaF!sh as a partner, we can offer our guests delicious tuna alternatives and expand our plant-based range, which is good for us and the oceans.
Planted produces plant-based meat substitutes. Thanks to the cooperation, we were able to add many fresh and delicious vegan dishes such as Planted Butter Chicken to our range.
Lemonaid's fresh organic lemonades support fair trade and promote local projects with every bottle sold. Lemonaid has been awarded the Fairtrade certificate for this.
We select our partners carefully and promote vegetarian and vegan alternatives in our product portfolio.
Reusable containers - a long road to sustainability
Reusable systems are associated with high costs for logistics and cleaning the containers and are particularly useful where large quantities of reusable containers can be transported, cleaned and returned to the system together. A reusable container must be used at least 8 times for it to be worthwhile.
Recyclable disposable packaging
We are continuously expanding our measures to optimize our contribution to sustainability, but so far we have seen the most positive results from our current packaging approach. Nevertheless, we will continue to evaluate our options for offering reusable packaging.
At Foodji, sustainable consumption and production are closely linked to innovative technology - as the basis for improved resource management.
Detours through intermediaries
Many restaurants are forced to use several intermediaries or delivery services. This creates a complex supply chain with long journeys.
Our supply chain - optimized from preparation to the guest
Our manufactories produce exclusively in Germany and always exactly where most of the resources are grown. We therefore fulfill our goal of sourcing the highest possible proportion of ingredients regionally.
Within a hub, the distance between the individual locations is around 9 km. This distance will be further reduced as the number of Foodjis continues to grow.
At Foodji, a constantly optimized supply chain and sustainable production are closely linked to innovative technology - we want to build a sustainable infrastructure.

Donate instead of waste
We regularly fill a food sharing fridge in the Heinrich Böll Library in Mühlenkiez, Berlin with surplus food. This enables us to provide free, high-quality meals for all visitors to the library. In doing so, we are supporting a social and ecological pilot project run by the Berlin Consumer Advice Center.
We work with Foodsharing across Germany to distribute surplus food at our locations in Germany and thus prevent food waste.
Through our donations, we provide healthy, fresh food for everyone.
We learn, we process, we optimize.
As a young company, we have already achieved a great deal on our journey so far - and our sustainability agenda for 2024 is just as ambitious:
